Applications are accepted by the Sheet Metal Industry Training Board (SMITB) and SMART Local Union #280 on an on-going basis. 


The application process:

  1. Complete the online Application Form and sign the Consent Form 
  2. Submit (if available):
    • Transcript (i.e. high school, college, welding, etc.) or GED
    • Resume
    • Any safety certification documentation
  3. Book the evaluation exam

Ways to obtain the information package (Application Form, Consent Form and Sample Exam Document):

*Application can also be filled out in person at SMART Local Union #280 or at the Training Centre at the same time as your evaluation exam.

Applicants for Sheet Metal Apprenticeship must be approved by the Sheet Metal Industry Training Board’s Co-ordinator.

The Sheet Metal Industry Training Board (comprised of Labour and Management representatives) selects apprentices, without regard to race, ethnicity, creed, sex, or national origin. Applicants living outside the lower mainland will be required to write the entrance exam prior to the first day of level one session training.
