On the advice of the employer, the Training Centre changes the status from a Pre-apprentice to a 1st year registered Apprentice.
Every registered apprentice has both an employer and a sponsor. The employer is one of our many SMACNA-BC contractors and Sheet Metal Industry Training Board (SMITB) is the multi-employer sponsor registered with the SkilledTradesBC. The SMITB schedules sheet metal workers and architectural sheet metal apprentices to attend subsidized technical training at the Sheet Metal Workers Training Centre (SMWTCS). The SMITB maintains the apprentice records and submits work-based training records to the SkilledTradesBC.
The SMITB will coordinate your progression through your levels of apprenticeship technical training at the SMWTCS, usually once per year. The process of working between levels (80% on-the-job) provides the practical experience to apply the in-school theory (20% technical training). The apprenticeship journey provides a well-rounded learning experience to thrive in a rewarding career as a sheet metal worker.
